The town was founded in the 1850’s and built around a flour mill along the Los Gatos creek. The town grew over the years in industry serving the logging industry of Santa Cruz Mountains. By the early 1900’s, the town grew in notoriety for its thriving bohemian artist culture. The town became a local hot spot for several well known artists including John Steinbeck and his novel The Grapes Of Wrath. As the boom of Silicon Valley grew over the 1980’s, Los Gatos became more of a suburb community for San Jose.

Los Gatos maintains its small town feel with a population approaching 30,000. The architecture of the city is a well maintained mixture of victorian buildings surrounding downtown from the 1920’s and suburban development from 1950 – 1980’s in the residential districts.
